About Us
Mission
To provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
Values
Inclusion & Opportunity
We strive to offer children and youth from all economic, cultural and social backgrounds access to the resources, supports and opportunities that will enable them to overcome barriers and achieve their positive potential in life.
Respect & Belonging
We provide a safe, supportive place, where every child is listened to, treated with respect and valued in an environment of inclusion and acceptance. Our staff and volunteers model honesty, fair play, positive attitude, cooperation and respect for self and others.
Empowerment
We believe all young people can grow into responsible, contributing and self-reliant members of society. Children and youth are at the centre of everything we do. Through adventure, play and discovery, we encourage and empower them to develop healthy lifestyles, a life-long passion for learning, leadership and life skills and a sense of social responsibility.
Collaboration
We work together with families and volunteers in each community, in partnership with the public and private sector, to create healthy community solutions to providing children and youth with what they need for optimal development.
Speaking Out
We speak out on behalf of children, youth and their families to reduce disadvantage, enhance their lives and enable their voices and ideas to be heard.
Our Team
Shirley Puttock – Executive Director
Our new Executive Director is Shirley Puttock. Shirley recently moved to Alberta from Ontario. She has over 15 years experience working with children and families in a not for profit venue.
Shirley hopes her energy and enthusiasm will help make the Boys and Girls Club the nucleus of our community. She welcomes new ideas for programs, and has big dreams for the Club. Her first job has been to get new windows added upstairs and expand on programming. Shirley's door is always open and she welcomes your ideas, concerns and support.
Kerri Forcier – Program Supervisor/Administrative Assistant
Hello, my name is Kerri Forcier. I am married and have two children. One boy (Brady) and one girl (Tyra). I moved to Alberta in the fall of 2006. We came from Terrace, B.C. I now reside in Turner Valley. Both of my kids go to Turner Valley School. This is where I heard about the Boys and Girls Club. In February 2007, there was a job position open for Program Assistant. I applied and have been here ever since.
I am now Program Supervisor and also work in the office as the Administrative Assistant. I see along future for me with the Boys and Girls Club. I look forward to working with the kids this fall at the Turner Valley School.
Pam Berrigan – Treasures from Heaven Preschool
Pam Berrigan started the Treasures from Heaven Preschool at the Club in 1997. She had 2 classes and about 24 students. The preschool has grown to over 60 children. Pam creates the educational component of the program and takes the 'learning through play' aspect quite seriously. It is an adventure seeing what nutty thing she will come up with next. She also does the music and doesn't seem to be shy about being silly.
Pam loves bumping into former students or having them visit the class. She also loves the relationships she develops with the families.
Pam lives just south of Black Diamond with her husband, David. She has a son that teaches in Turner Valley School, a son that lives in Red Deer and a daughter in Edmonton. Pam is also the very proud Gramma of Nolan, Luke and 2 more babies due this year.
Children have always been her passion and she loves the joy and laughter that children bring into her life.
Kerry Stack – Treasures from Heaven Preschool
Kerry Stack has been with the Preschool since 2001. Pam and Kerry were friends for a long time before Kerry came to work at the preschool and their friendship brings a warm and caring atmosphere to the class.
Kerry loves the art component of the preschool and is constantly amazed with the children's ability and imagination.
Kerry is also our shopper. She is constantly finding cool toys for the kids. She takes a lot of heat for her shopping, but left in Pam's hands?.....ooooh.
Kerry lives at Heritage Point with her husband Ted. She has two daughters and a son. Kerry also has a farm at Millarville, and has been part of the community since she was 10 years old.
Kerry is our detail person and keeps Pam on the right track. She is also the class historian and faithfully writes down the hilarious things the children say. You will love that at yearbook time.
